The Key

In July 2007, two Link Leisure members became stars for a week in the Nomad Theatre's Play-in-a-week, The Key.
The play was written in advance by Anita Sullivan, and encompassed all the ideas given by the disabled groups involved.
The plot: A wedding is in progress at a big
hotel in London. The bride and groom are given the key to their room by a
curious old retainer. But this is no ordinary key: it opens every door and
behind each is a different decade in the building's chequered history. The bride
and groom become separated. They rove through time trying to find each other and
on the way discover more about the hotel's dodgy past, and about each other.
The beginning of the performance week was the first time any of the cast got to
see their scripts, and was the start of 7 days of intensive rehearsals.
One Link Leisure member took on the role of 'techie', learning how to work the stage lights, the other chose to act and got the male lead
After 5 days of rehearsals, the first performance was upon them, and was watched by a full house, including Link Leisure's drama group who had come to support their friends!
This was a great achievement for all involved, as the cast and crew made a magical, professional performance in the space of just 7 days, working a massive 12-hour day on the Saturday including performance, and all deserve real credit for their hard-work and commitment.
A big "Thank You" to the Nomad theatre for giving our members such an opportunity, and we look forward to continuing to work with you in the future.
