HORIZON THEATRE CO.
The story so far.........
How it all began...
Back in March 2007, Link Leisure got in touch with the Nomad Theatre in East Horsley.
Our first visit...
The Nomads invited us over to have a taster day at the theatre, where we had a tour of the facilities, met their tutors from Scarab Theatre Co. and took part in a day-long workshop.
Easter workshops...
Following this, some of Link Leisure's drama group took part in the "Acting for All" workshops at the Nomad during the Easter holidays. After 2 or 3 days of dance or drama workshops, performances were put on in the theatre to a small audience.
Naming ourselves...
Next, our drama group joined the Nomad Outreach programme, and started a course of 10 sessions with outreach tutors at Link Leisure, during which time we learnt new skills, techniques and games, and named ourselves "Horizon Theatre Company".
Going to the theatre...
The night before our last session, we took a trip to the Nomad to watch their Play-In-A-Week, The Key (starring one of our members). It was brilliant! (see on the "News" page for more about this).
Showcase...
Our last session, week 10 of our workshops, was a chance for us to show off to family and friends exactly what we had all been doing for the last couple of months. We put together, with the help of all Scarab Theatre Company's tutors, a great 30 minute showcase of warm-ups, drama games, improvisations and even an interpretation of Virginia Woolf's poem, "The Waves". This was a great way to end the term, and gave people the chance to see exactly how much we had learnt and how great we were becoming as a Theatre Company.
What next...
The Nomad theatre and Link Leisure are working together to try and find funding to carry on with Horizon Theatre Company in the autumn. The plan is for us to put on a real show in the Nomad theatre itself, hopefully in February. So keep your fingers crossed everybody- we've got the Ghost Train to think about!!
THANK YOUS!
All that is left for me to say about this marvellous journey is a big "Thank You" from all of us at Link Leisure, and Horizon Theatre Company to Bill at the Nomad for his perseverance and enthusiasm, which has helped us to get so involved and achieve what we have over this year.
Again, we must extend even more thanks to Scarab Theatre Co. and especially to Richard, our main tutor, who worked wonders on everybody's confidence and growth over the space of 10 workshops- we look forward to working with you and your "HA....... HA......... HA." which everybody still talks about!
